I had the opportunity to visit the Michael–Cleary, “To The Trade Only” Showroom at the Design Center, in the world famous Chicago Merchandise Mart. Where I was introduced to their latest line of furniture.  Mulligan’s reproductions are extremely well-made, sturdy pieces of furniture.  I also had the opportunity to closely inspect several of their wonderful pieces of furniture, and what I found is very hard to find, hand applied finishes which create perfect reproductions of genuine aged finishes.  Stained wood services are finished with a smooth and warm deep glow.  With painted finishes layered to give real vintage character, appropriate to much older pieces.  We invite you to explore with our complementary Designer on Call Concierge Service and save.  Call 773-761-6950 for questions and schedule your complementary appointment at this showroom or in your home.

The Isabella Chandelier from Ebanista is a 6-light chandelier with an Acanthus leaf upper and center banding. The chandelier features graduated crystal beading and suspended 6 tier crystal prisms. The chandelier is 22 inches in diameter and 44 inches high. It is available in a light antique gold, medium antique gold, dark antique gold, light antique silver, and medium antiqued silver, and dark antique silver finishes. An Isabella Ceiling Mount and Isabella Sconce is also available.

The Isabella Chandelier from Ebanista is a 6-light chandelier with an Acanthus leaf upper and center banding. The chandelier features graduated crystal beading and suspended 6 tier crystal prisms. The chandelier is 22 inches in diameter and 44 inches high. It is available in a light antique gold, medium antique gold, dark antique gold, light antique silver, and medium antiqued silver, and dark antique silver finishes. An Isabella Ceiling Mount and Isabella Sconce is also available.

The Forward Collection

The collection is a momentous step in the evolution of the Vladimir Kagan brand, conceived by Chris Eitel, Kagan’s longtime protégé, now director of design and production for the Vladimir Kagan Design Group. Each piece demonstrates Eitel’s fluency in Kagan’s practice, resulting in a collection that nods to the brand DNA while subtly pushing the design language in innovative directions.

Big Picture Sofa is a contemporary design that pushes the boundaries of iconic Kagan details. At a glance, the double-crescent form creates the illusion that it is nested. Instead, the seat cantilevers from the back in a true feat of engineering, balanced by the zaftig outer crescent back.

The Bienenstock Coffee Table is a contemporary design incorporating distinct Kagan details. The table was inspired by the Omnibus Collection and its signature Lucite bases, a clear nod to a defining Kagan material. Precision manufacturing allows the piece to fit together seamlessly, including a decorative storage box to float within the design. The storage box is finished in a tortoiseshell pattern with shimmering gold-leaf underlay, or is offered in a range of colored lacquers and lined with the customer’s own choice of fabric or leather.

Vladimir Kagan was ahead of his time when it came to ergonomic design, creating pieces that supported the body while simultaneously making a style statement. This contemporary stool from the Kagan studio carries on in that tradition. The hand-carved walnut legs mimic the animalistic nature of classic Kagan designs, as they lead into a curvaceous ergonomic seat that was inspired by Western and English riding saddles.

The Sculpted Wood Loveseat Open Back harnesses the power of negative space with a whiplash curve embracing—but not entirely encompassing—a kidney-shaped seat. The curve is meticulously clad in stacked and carved walnut, a dramatic design element reminiscent of Vladimir Kagan’s limited-edition Annecy Sofa.
